FAQ
How do I apply for the program?
To apply for a minor, your first step is to contact our office. You can stop by Seigle 085 or send an email to stats@artsci.wustl.edu.
Do you offer a masters?
We do not offer a masters in Applied Statistics. You may wish to investigate the masters program in the Math department. For a complete listing of all departments please visit the Washington University website.
Can Ph.D. candidates take CAS courses and receive a minor?
No.
Does your program include SAS?
The Center predominately uses the R statistical language in our courses, but supports SAS and Stata in some offerings. Students may choose to use (and purchase) their own statistical software, at the discretion of the instructor.
Are acceptable electives limited to the courses on your website?
No, but contact our office to ensure that the elective is acceptable before enrolling.
Can the required core minor courses in CAS also count towards core major requirements for students in the Business School since both programs require two of the same courses?
For business students, QBA I and II (a two semester sequence) count as Applied Statistics I. Business students will need to take Linear Models and three electives to complete the minor.
Are TOEFL scores part of the application process for international students?
Although the application for the Stats minor does not require submission of TOEFL scores, all international students are required to submit scores as part of the general Washington University application process.
If I want a career in statistics, what should I major in?
Students considering a career in statistics should pursue their primary curriculum through Mathematics; those students may choose to enrich their education with some courses from the Center for Applied Statistics.
Can non-program students use your poster printer, and is there a charge?
Yes, but you first need to contact your primary department to receive their approval and request the department billing number. Then you can contact Sue Tuhro via email to submit your request: tuhro@wustl.edu. See our resources page for specs and pricing.
How can I reserve the CAS computer classroom?
Our 16 seat Mac computer classroom is located in Seigle Hall, Room L016 and is available for use by other departments. To schedule, please call or email Sue Tuhro.
